3 charged in restaurant holdup
Police arrested three men in connection with a Monday morning robbery of a Wendy’s restaurant near uptown Charlotte.
Charged in the case were Kwame Hakeem Crawford, 19; Dion Lamar Williams, 19; and Salaam Fuquan Felton, 21.
Police were called to the restaurant, located near the Metropolitan shopping area just southeast of uptown, around 2:30 a.m. on a report of a robbery in progress.
Employees said they were closing for the night when three masked suspects forced them back inside and demanded money. The suspects were unable to open the safe so the suspects robbed the victims, pistol whipping a customer who was inside the store.
A short time later police spotted a Honda matching the description of a car used in the robbery. After a brief chase the suspects jumped from the car at West 7th and N. Poplar streets and ran.
Crawford and Williams were arrested a short time later. Felton turned himself in at CMPD headquarters later Monday morning.
Police recovered items taken from one of the victims along with a gun and ski mask.
All were charged with attempted robbery of a business, two counts of robbery of person, one count of conspiracy and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury.
