A 2-year-old boy who was shot last week while sitting in his stroller has died.

Police said Amias Bernard Robinson, who celebrated a birthday last month, died Monday from injuries he sustained during a confrontation between adults.

Police last week charged 34-year-old Alvin Alexander (pictured here) with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury. On Monday, the charge against him was changed to murder.

Alexander is in the Mecklenburg jail.

Witnesses told police the shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday in the 5800 block of Eastbrook Road, in the Hampshire Hills neighborhood between The Plaza and Old Concord Road, where two groups of people had been arguing.

The boy's caretaker managed to avoid the gunfire. The child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.

Neighbors told the Charlotte Observer they heard six or seven gunshots. Police said the child did not appear to the shooter's intended target.
