3-year-old boy shot during altercation
A 3-year-old boy was shot in the knee early Wednesday morning during an altercation at a home in the Sugar Creek area of northeast Charlotte.
The child’s name was not immediately released.
Police said they were called to a home in the 800 block of Squirrel Hill Road around 3:25 a.m. When officers arrived, they were met by the home’s occupants, who said a toddler had been shot in the left leg.
Based on initial statements given by witnesses, detectives suspect the shooting was linked to an altercation that took place earlier at Faces Night Club off Freedom Drive in west Charlotte. Nine people were inside the home at the time of the shooting; only the toddler was injured.
Medics treated the toddler at the scene before taking him to Carolinas Medical Center. He was listed Wednesday morning in serious condition and may require surgery.
Police continue to investigate but did not immediately announce any arrests.
