A rare double loss for JCSU basketball
Johnson C. Smith University basketball suffered a rare double-loss Saturday, with both the men’s and women’s teams dropping conference games to St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh.
For the JCSU women, who lost 71-56, it was only their second loss this season and their first loss in the CIAA Southern Division. The JCSU men’s team moved to 13-8 on the season after dropping Saturday’s matchup 83-71 to the falcons.
On paper, it should have been an easy victory for both JCSU teams. Going into Saturday’s game, the Lady Falcons were 13-9 on the season and 1-4 in the Southern division. The St. Augustine’s men’s team was 7-14 overall and 1-4 in the division.
Saturday marked the first time this season that both JCSU teams have lost. Each has four games remaining in regular-season play – including a Feb. 21 rematch with St. Augustine’s – before the CIAA tournament begins at Time Warner Cable Area on Feb. 28.
