Good Morning Qcity! The weekend is almost here. What are your plans? If you haven’t made any yet, be sure to check back for Toni’s picks in her weekly column, “On the Town with Toni.”

The weatherman says we can expect another beautiful day with plenty of sunshine, clear skies with a high around 78°.

Here’s what’s brewing in the news:

The final hours

Troy Davis did not give up hope that his life would be spared until his final moments on earth. He spent much of the day fasting. He also prayed and took a nap before his execution, according to state documents detailing prison guard accounts of Davis’ last day.

The documents obtained by the Associated Press also say that Davis spent the hours leading up to his execution on and off the phone with his lawyer awaiting news on his fate. He turned down his breakfast, his lunch and an early dinner. Two weeks prior, when Davis was asked what he wished to have for his final meal, guards say he scrawled a response in big letters: "None. Will Be Fasting!"

His final day was filled with emotional goodbyes. He received 28 visitors. Around 6:45 p.m. guards say they witnessed Davis kneeling in his prison cell and praying. Fifteen minutes later, they say he laid down for an hour-long nap. When he awoke, he made another call to his attorney and requested food. After the Supreme Court denied his last-minute appeal, guards removed Davis from his cell at around 10:28 p.m. and strapped him to a gurney in the execution chamber as witnesses filed in. At 11:08 p.m. Davis was pronounced dead, and the chamber was cleared.

QUESTION: If you knew it was your last day on earth, how would you spend it?

Man exonerated after pimp recants testimony

Obie Anthony, 37, was exonerated and set free after spending 17 years in jail. Anthony was convicted and sentenced to life after a pimp claimed he saw him shoot and kill a man outside a brothel in Los Angeles. Anthony claims he was never at the scene. The pimp, who had been offered a lighter sentence for his own crimes to testify against Anthony, later recanted his testimony. As the news of Amanda Knox being released from an Italian prison dominated the spotlight this week, Anthony and another man were quietly freed on Tuesday with the help of the nonprofit Innocence Project, which helps to overturn wrongful convictions. (Read morePhoto: Anthony with his fiancé after his release from prison.
