A man who was shot at New Year's event has died
A man has died after he was shot early New Year’s Day outside an east Charlotte nightclub.
Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Brandon Jermaine Covington.
The shooting happened at 1:58 a.m. in the parking lot of club Backstage in the 8800 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard, near Albemarle Road.
An off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who was helping with security at the club told investigators he was attempting to clear the parking lot when they heard several gunshots fired in the area of a crowd. When he made his way to the location, he found a man who had been shot in the head.
Covington died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center.
Police have announced no motive or arrest in the case.
