A message from Dottie Sandusky

Good morning! Thank goodness it’s Friday. What are your weekend plans? Be sure to check out Toni’s picks in her weekly column “On the Town with Toni.”
The weatherman is calling for a cool and cloudy weekend. Today, we will see partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 50s. Saturday’s forecast includes more clouds and a high around 52°. Sunday expect a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 20s.

Dottie Sandusky says her husband loves children
After being accused of being at home and ignoring the screams of a young boy being sodomized by her husband, ex-Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky’s wife Dottie has issued a statement for the first time since her husband was arrested last and charged with several counts of child sex abuse. "I am so sad anyone would make such a terrible accusation which is absolutely untrue," she said. "We don't know why these young men have made these false accusations, but we want everyone to know they are untrue." (Read more)

Former legislator Nick Mackey charged with DUI
Nick Mackey, well known for his contentious and unsuccessful campaign for Mecklenburg County sheriff in 2007, was arrested and charged with driving drunk with a revoked license, according to a Concord police report. Mackey also allegedly asked the arresting officer to charge him with a lesser offense because of his previous service as a police officer and attempted to delay being administered a sobriety test. Worker fired for not allowing transgender shopper into dressing room
According to Natalie Johnson, who worked at a Macy’s store in Texas, there is no such thing as a transgendered person. “A guy can dress up as a woman all he wants, that's still not going to make you a woman,” Johnson said. So when a transgendered customer tried to enter the women’s fitting room at Johnson’s store, the 27-year-old denied him entry and was subsequently fired. (Read more)

Investigation of Virginia Tech murder, suicide continues
Law enforcement officials at Virginia Tech have confirmed that the unidentified gunman who shot a campus police officer is dead. Yet, they have not been able to determine any motive or link between the shooter and his victim, Deriek W. Crouse, an Army veteran and married father of five. (Read more)

Tweet and slumber result in new trial for death-row inmate
Erickson Dimas-Martinez, now 26, was sentenced to death row for robbing and fatally shooting 17-year-old Derrick Jefferson in 2006. The conviction and sentence was overturned on Thursday by the Arkansas Supreme Court. The court granted Dimas-Martinez a new trial because one juror slept and another tweeted during court proceedings. (Read more)
