Mecklenburg resident who call 911 will soon have a new option to report minor medical problems.

Medic, the county’s emergency medical service, will announce the new OMEGA program at a 10 a.m. news conference on Friday. The program will be operated in conjunction with Carolinas HealthCare System, Presbyterian Healthcare and Mecklenburg County.

Officials said OMEGA is a safe healthcare option that gives patients a choice to either speak to a nurse or continue their request for ambulance transport. The option will be patient driven, officials said, and 911 callers will never be denied ambulance service.
