Alvin Greene returns to politics
Alvin Greene, the unemployed U.S. Army veteran who faces criminal obscenity charges,
is running for office again -- this time an open S.C. House seat in Clarendon County.
Greene made headlines last fall as a South Carolina Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate. He eventually lost in a landslide to Republican incumbent Jim DeMint.
This time out, Greene is one of three Democrats running to fill a District 64 vacancy created by the death of state Rep. Cathy Harvin. According to published reports, Greene filed his candidacy within minutes after the filing period opened.
The District 64 primary is scheduled for Feb. 15, with a special election set for April 5.
Green was arrested in 2009 on charges alleging that he showed pornographic images to a female student at the University of South Carolina. That case is still pending.
