A Loomis Fargo employee was shot and seriously injured during an armed robbery Monday while servicing an ATM in the SouthPark area.
The shooting happened around 9 a.m. in the 7800 block of Fairview Road at a Wells Fargo ATM in the Foxcroft shopping center, about a block from Charlotte Country Day School.
The victim, a female, was not immediately identified. Police said she was still undergoing surgery about an hour after the shooting was reported.
According to Lt. Fred Newell, two Loomis Fargo employees were attempting to service the ATM when they were approached by at least one gunman. Newell said initial details were sketchy because of conflicting reports.
After the shooting, the Loomis Fargo employees fled in their armored truck to seek medical help but stopped along the way to call paramedics.
Police said the shooter fled the immediate area on foot. Tracking dogs were brought in but did not pick up a trail. Meanwhile, students at Charlotte Country Day were put on lockdown when police searched for the gunman.
