ASC launches $8.3 million drive
The Arts & Science Council on Tuesday kicked off its annual fundraising campaign with a reception in Founders Hall. This year's goal: $8.3 million.
The 2011 goal includes $1 million to help restore arts-related field trips and educational programs cut from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools budget.
ASC President Scott Provancher said that with the recovering U.S. economy, the fundraising atmosphere this year is “distinctly different” than in 2010. He also said that local budget cuts have sparked “a realization of what has been lost in our community.
The campaigns run through March 25.
ASC distributes money to dozens of Mecklenburg cultural groups. Last year, the group met its $7.3 million goal.
