ASC names grant recipients
The Arts & Science Council (ASC) — in conjunction with arts councils in Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Rowan, Rutherford and York counties and with the support of the North Carolina Arts Council (NCAC) and Blumenthal Endowment — today announced its 2012 Regional Artist Project Grant (RAPG) recipients.
This year, grants were awarded to 31 artists of varied disciplines, including six African Americans: Gerwood Shephard (film), Nichole Gause (literature), Natasha Morris (literature), Dawn Hilton-Williams (literature), Stacey Rose (literature) and Tenya Coleman (performing).
According to the ASC, the RAPG provides funds for individuals and groups of unincorporated artists to pursue projects that further enhance their artistic development by attending professional development experiences or purchasing/renting equipment.
For 2011, the RAPG provided all-or-nothing grants of up to $2,000; in previous years, emerging artists were able to apply for up to $3,000 and established artists for up to $5,000 and eligibility for the grant rotated between disciplines. This year’s grantees were selected from 106 applicants, who requested a total of $168,431 for $50,000 in available funds.
