Bishop TD Jakes speaks on Eddie Long and other scandals

In a recent interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, Bishop T.D. Jakes weighed in on the recent sex abuse scandal at Penn State and the allegations made against Bishop Eddie Long. Jakes said the striking difference between the two is that if the misconduct alleged against Long did occur, it involved older boys who could speak up for themselves, not helpless 10-year-old children.

Report: Rev. Al Sharpton’s empire is swimming in debt

According to public records the Rev. Al Sharpton and his empire, including his non-profit National Action Network and two for-profit companies - Bo-Spanky Consulting Inc. and Sharpton Media LLC - are $5.3 million in the red, reports the New York Post. The Post reports that while Sharpton’s non-profit was $1.6 million in debt, the organization paid him nearly $242,000 in salary. (Read more)

City becomes first to top $10 minimum wage

Come New Year’s Day, many people living in San Francisco will have a few more coins in their pockets to spare. The city will make history, becoming the first in the nation to exceed a $10 minimum wage. At $10.24 an hour, the city’s lowest paid workers will be earning nearly $3 more than the working wage set by the federal government. (Read more)

'Elvis' monkey, psychedelic gecko found in SE Asia

Scientists in the Mekong River region of Southeast Asia describe 208 new species, including a psychedelic gecko and a monkey with an “Elvis” hairdo in a report released Monday. "While this species, sporting an Elvis-like hairstyle, is new to science, the local people of Myanmar know it well," the Switzerland-based group said in its report. (Read more)
