Local Black Chamber launches new online jobs page
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Chamber of Commerce has launched a new web page for local job postings.
Veronica Giles, the chamber’s executive director, said any employer may use the page. However, she said, she hopes it will be especially attractive to African Americans.
“It’s a place where African American and minorities can go to see some opportunities that may be available for them from diversity business owners,” she said.
The job-posting page was launched in early June in partnership with the National Black Chamber of Commerce, which teamed up with Diversified Workplace LLC, a Fort-Worth, Texas,-based company that publishes a national jobs site.
Karen Harlan, president of Diversified Workplace, said she introduced a prototype in July 2010 at the National Black Chamber’s annual convention. The full site has been live for about six months, she said.
Harlan declined to give traffic numbers.
“Since we are in the infancy stage, obviously we are not having the traffic numbers of a Monster.com or a CareerBuilder.com,” she said, “but I can tell you that it is growing rapidly.”
Both Harlan and Giles said they believe the site will appeal to employers seeking to build diverse staffs.
Giles, who joined the local Black Chamber in October 2010, said the organization also is considering a procurement page where contractors could find bid information on local projects or contracts.
As for the jobs-posting page, Giles said prices to post a job range from $250 for a 30-day listing to $1,300 to post 12 jobs for a full year. Custom packages also are available, she said.
