Blumenthal Center raises cash for Haiti relief
The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center raised more than $10,000 for Haiti relief efforts, officials said Friday.
The money was collected during special fundraisers at two Blumenthal productions.
Cast from the Broadway tour of “Spring Awakening” collected donations in the Belk Theater lobby following each of their performances Feb. 2 - 7.
In addition, ticket proceeds from the first three performances of “Woody Sez” (Feb. 3 – 5) were donated to earthquake relief in Haiti.
“We’re grateful for the help of the cast of Spring Awakening and our generous theatergoers to raise significant support for the relief efforts,” Center President Tom Gabbard said. “This is part of a national effort of the Broadway League to involve theaters in New York and across the country in raising desperately needed support for those in Haiti.”
The cast of “Woody Sez” also performed at the Wachovia customer information center on Harris Boulevard, collecting canned goods and cash to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. The amount collected will feed a family of four 195 meals or 780 individual meals.
“Woody Sez” runs through Feb. 21 at the Booth Playhouse. Tickets may be purchased online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at 704-372-1000, or from the Blumenthal box office in the Tryon Street lobby of the Belk Theater.
