Bush says he resents Kanye West remark
It took five years, but former president George W. Bush has finally responded to Kanye West’s famous assertion, following Hurricane Katrina, that "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
In an interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer, the former president said he was personally offended.
"I didn't appreciate it then. I don't appreciate it now,” he said. “It's one thing to say, 'I don't appreciate the way he's handled his business.' It's another thing to say, 'This man's a racist.' I resent it, it's not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency.”
In his upcoming memoir, “Decision Points,” scheduled for release November 9, Bush talks about the 14 decisions that he regarded as the most critical during his two-term presidency.
In addition to his response following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Bush also listed his response to the devastation of Katrina.
The former president’s slow response was widely criticized and led some, including West, to level charges of racism.
