CATS develops new, free app for transit riders
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has joined the apps craze.
The department that operates regional trains and buses has developed a free app for iPhones. A version for Blackberries, Droid and other web-enabled smartphones will be available in March.
The "Ride CATS" mobile app will estimate the next arrival time and the next three arrival times at any transit stop for any CATS bus route or LYNX train. The app is an expansion of the introductory mobile app launched last year for the LYNX Blue Line.
Officials said it is the first of many mobile innovations CATS will be making this year.
"Today's customer is on the go and CATS new mobile app provides just-in-time transit schedule information to keep them moving," Olaf Kinard, Director of Marketing and Communications, said Wednesday in a statement.
The app has an option for English or Spanish.
