Charlotte home sales dip in July
The Charlotte housing market recorded another dismal month in July, with the number of closings taking a double-digit dip from the year before.
Buyers closed on about 1,968 houses, townhouses and condos last month, a 11.5 percent drop from the 2,223 recorded in July 2009.
The numbers, reported Tuesday by the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association, are taken from the Carolina Multiple Listing Services and cover a 10-county region.
Last month’s average sales price was up 2 percent from a year ago, at $217,320, and was up less than one percent over the June 2010 average sales price of $215,559.
Pending sales – signed contracts that hadn’t closed – fell to about 1,800 last month, down 23 percent from the previous year, the largest drop since May 2009. Pending sales are the best gauge of current activity.
