Charlotte woman charged with identity theft
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police today arrested a 29-year-old woman and charged her with 11 counts of financial identity fraud and 11 counts of unauthorized use of a credit device.
Shayla Lavasia Thornwell, of Charlotte, turned herself in at the Mecklenburg sheriff’s office today and was booked into county jail, according to a CMPD report.
In December 2009, AAA Carolinas notified police that it suspected a data breach by one of its employees. AAA worked with CMPD’s financial crimes unit to alert AAA customers.
Over the last two months, 11 victims were identified and filed police reports alleging financial identity theft.
