A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexually assaulting two young women in his patrol car after pulling them over at traffic stops.

Marcus Jackson (pictured), 25, was charged with three counts of sexual battery, second-degree sex offense, extortion, kidnapping, indecent exposure and two counts of felonious restraint.

CMPD officials said the alleged incidents happened within the last two weeks. Jackson, who was assigned to the Eastway Division, had been on the police force for a little more than a year.

Chief Rodney Monroe called the alleged crimes “a complete dishonor” to the police department and the men and women who wear the uniform.

"To have one of our own involved in such a despicable act is not only a violation of the public trust, but a complete dishonor to this officer and every officer that wears this badge," Monroe said Wednesday night. "We work very hard to gain and maintain the public's trust, and this knocks us backward."

Monroe said he anticipates additional charges against Jackson and appealed for other potential victims to step forward.

“We’re not so naïve as to believe that these are the only incidents Mr. Jackson has been involved in,” he said.

Monroe said Jackson was terminated immediately.

Both of the alleged incidents happened between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., Monroe said.

The first, on Dec. 18, is alleged to have occurred after Jackson pulled over a 17-year-old girl. He is accused of forcing her into his car, driving to another location and committing sex acts.

A relative of the girl called police Monday night, the Charlotte Observer reported.

As detectives were investigating, Monroe said, a 21-year-old woman came forward Tuesday night and said that she, too, had been sexually assaulted by Jackson during a traffic stop.

Police said anyone else who may have been assaulted by Jackson should call detective Mike Melendez at 704-353-0560.
