CMPD officer, not suspect, fired shot
CMPD now says one of its own officers -- not a suspect as previously alleged -- discharged a weapon during a confrontation Wednesday just north of center city.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police originally had said that an unnamed suspect discharged a handgun while pulling it from the waistband of his pants. Hours later, authorities revised the account, saying officer Sean Parker may have discharged his weapon into the ground while removing it from his holster.
Parker was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a departmental investigation, per CMPD policy. Parker is assigned to the Metro Division and was hired in 2001.
The incident happened at 12:32 p.m. in the 500 block of Franklin Avenue, just east of N. Graham Street, while officers were investigating a breaking and entering at a vacant house located at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Catalina Avenue.
