CMPD releases tapes in Jackson case
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Wednesday released 911 tapes and radio transmissions relating to the case of Marcus Jackson, the 26-year-old former officer accused of sexually assaulting several women during traffic stops.
In one recording, Jackson is heard telling a dispatcher that he was transporting someone "right around the corner" to the person's home, according to the Charlotte Observer, Qcitymetro's online news partner. The address he gave is the home of a 17-year-old girl who later accused Jackson of forcing her to perform a sex act in his squad car to avoid a traffic ticket.
In another recording, a man speaking Spanish calls 911 to report that Jackson was "grabbing" his girlfriend during a traffic stop, the Observer reported. In the background, Jackson can twice be heard telling the man to "hang up the phone." Then, the phone goes dead.
CMPD had refused to release the tapes, arguing that their release would hamper its investigation and interfere with Jackson's right to a fair trial, but a judge on Wednesday disagreed.
So far, at least six women have accused Jackson of wrongdoing. A grand jury indicted him in three cases and asked prosecutors to investigate the remaining claims.
