The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police department will partner with a local runners organization to mentor girls in elementary and middle school.

The joint effort between CMPD and Girls on the Run was set to be announced today at an afternoon press conference at the Greenville Recreation Center just north of uptown.

According to a statement released by CMPD, the two organizations “will be working side by side to assist elementary and middle school aged girls and provide life lessons that are aimed to assist them in their decision making in the future.”

CMP coaches will include officers, civilian employees, and volunteers.

Girls on the Run is a national nonprofit that combines an interactive curriculum and running to promote self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Click here to visit the local chapter’s website.
