CMS releases budget video
Officials at Charlotte Mecklenburg-Schools started budget discussions this week. And — in an effort to get the public to understand and be engaged in the process — they created and screened a special CMS budget video, which is embedded below.
According to Tahira Stalberte, director of communications at CMS: “CMS is planning to request approximately $30 million dollars from the county to give all employees a raise. The video gives real examples of how teachers and support staff take on additional jobs to meet their personal budgets, yet the academic successes in CMS continues to rise.
“We want the community to understand that everyone who lives in this community owns public education even if you don’t have a child in a public school,” she added. “When our schools are strong our community improves. Conversely, when educators and those who support them endure years of salary freezes while facing an increased cost of living, they bear a heavy burden that can trickle into classrooms and impede academic progress. We hope the video will help the community to become more engaged in the discussion about the CMS budget.”
