Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools are opening their doors to rising kindergarten students and their families for Beginners Days events throughout April and May.

The events give new students and their parents an idea of what to expect when kindergarten starts August 25. Families can tour their child’s future school and meet teachers and staff members who can explain what kindergarten is all about. Parents also will learn how to prepare their child for this big step. The cafeteria managers explain the pre-paid lunch system and the offer tips on best way to plan a child’s lunch menu. Future kindergartners also work on classroom activities.

CMS will open on Wednesday, Aug. 25. Students must be five years old on or before Aug. 31 to begin kindergarten. New student-enrollment forms are available on the CMS Web site, at any school, learning community office, or the Family Application Center, which is at 700 Marsh Road.

Check the CMS Web site for the complete schedule of Beginners Days events.
