CMS names new area superintendent, personnel chief
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board on Tuesday announced the following appointments:
Kit Rea, executive director of the Southwest Zone, was named area superintendent for
that zone.
Rea has worked in education for 26 years, most of it at CMS. She began her career as a teacher and coach at Charlotte Latin School. She taught physical education and coached volleyball, basketball and softball. She was a teacher and coach at Alexander Graham Middle and Vance High schools, becoming an academic facilitator and then assistant principal at Vance and at Wilson Middle. She was named principal at Vance and went on to open Mallard Creek High in 2007. She was named CMS Wachovia Principal of the Year in 2008.
A Charlotte native, Rea holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and a master’s degree from Winthrop University. She also holds a principal certification from Winthrop.
Her annual salary will be $134,659.

Daniel A. Habrat was named chief human resources officer.
Habrat worked most recently in human resources for Wells Fargo Bank/Wachovia Bank, serving as a senior vice president and chief operating officer-international, where he managed merger integration for all human resources operations outside the U.S.
Previously, he served as a senior workforce planning strategist and senior business partner in investment banking for Wachovia. He was chief operating officer for human resources in the corporate and investment bank at Wachovia and human resources director at First Union Capital Markets. He also spent five years as an administrator in higher education at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and Marquette University.
A native of Muskego, Wis., Habrat holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and a master’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
His annual salary will be $160,000.
