Starting today (Monday), you can make your preferences known to school board members by completing an online survey.
As the board seeks to replace former Superintendent Peter Gorman, who resigned in June, the public is being invited to offer input. The survey will be available Oct. 24 – Nov. 7 at www.nextsuperintendent.com.
“Public engagement is vital for this process,” CMS board chair Eric Davis said in a statement “We want our community to help us to find the best educational leader for CMS.”
The survey includes questions about the importance of various leadership traits, skills and abilities. It also includes a demographic section and a question asking respondents if they work in CMS or have a child enrolled in the district.
CMS officials said the survey is being conducted by UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute and that participants and their responses will be kept confidential.
The survey is open to anyone 18 or older who lives in Mecklenburg County or works for CMS. A separate survey is available for CMS high school students. A Spanish language version also is available.
The district will use social media and community groups to encourage participation. After the public-engagement phase of the search is completed, the board will receive a summary of results.
