Cold case unit makes homicide arrest
The CMPD cold case unit has arrested Tyrone Jamar Johnson, 33, for the May, 2000,
killing of Johnnie Mae Shine (photo left).
Shine, 50, was killed on Mimosa Avenue in east Charlotte.
Police said physical evidence recovered at the crime scene recently linked Johnson to the killing. A grand jury indicted Johnson in September of 2009 while he was serving time in a South Carolina prison on unrelated charges. He was extradited to North Carolina on Tuesday and was charged with murder.
Johnson is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg
County sheriff’s office.
This is the 29th murder case that the Cold Case Unit has cleared since its inception in 2003.
Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, or lead Cold Case Detective Stephen Furr at 704-336-7689.
