CPCC gets $250,000 to retrain displaced professionals
The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation has given $250,000 to Central Piedmont Community College to retrain and counsel displaced professional and “paraprofessional” workers.
CPCC will use part of the money to award scholarships through its Corporate and Continuing Education program (CCE). Scholarship recipients will attend CCE training courses such as project management and business analysis.
The school is expected to outline the scholarship application process in the next few weeks.
A second component of the grant will be used to hire new career coaches for the College’s Career Professionals Center at the Harris Campus. The center offers one-on-one coaching to help participants identify transferrable skills and target job searches to areas and industries with anticipated job growth.
The one-on-one career coaching is a critical component of the assistance and support needed by unemployed and underemployed professionals and paraprofessionals. Currently, the need in the community far exceeds the Center’s staffing and capacity.
With local unemployment levels close to 12 percent, the need in the community far exceeds the center’s staffing and capacity, CPCC said in announcing the grant.
