A woman who relatives say was the mother of six children was shot and killed when an argument broke out overnight in the parking lot of a north Charlotte dance club.
The victim was identified by police as Juquina Harris, 27. Relatives at the scene say she was a dancer at the Silver Fox club, where the shooting took place.
According to police, officers were called to the club, in the 3900 block of Statesville Road, near Interstate 85, about 2 a.m. They found the victim in the parking lot, and she was declared dead at the scene.
Witnesses said an argument had broken out near the club entrance, and that someone pulled a gun and began firing.
Police say witnesses told officers a green sedan left the club’s parking lot moments after the shooting, headed toward the uptown area on Statesville Avenue. A short time later, officials at Carolinas Medical Center contacted police and said a gunshot victim had arrived there, driven by another man in a green four-door Pontiac.
Police say they took the male gunshot victim and the driver into custody. Investigators have not said whether those men were connected with the Silver Fox club shooting.
Several of the victim’s relatives gathered outside the club in the pre-dawn hours, as police talked to witnesses and conducted the investigation.
“What are the kids going to do?” asked Angelo Pozo, who said he was related to the victim.
Other relatives said the victim was not the kind of person who would get into arguments.
Police continued the investigation Thursday morning and ask that anyone with information contact Homicide detectives at 704-432-TIPS, or call Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600
