Good Morning! The weatherman says it’s going to be another hot and humid day. The forecast is calling for a high of 98°, but the heat index could reach 110°. Expect scattered clouds with the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm developing this afternoon. There is also a chance of rain for tonight.

Did you know that sufferers of depression are more likely to have a heart attack than those who are not depressed? Additionally, people who have heart attacks or heart surgery are more at risk for depression. Today's fact brought to you by randomhistory.com

Here’s what’s brewing in the news?

Black don’t crack, but it does get cancer

Many black folks have the wrong impression about skin cancer. Some think it’s just a white person’s disease. For this reason, minorities in the U.S. are less likely to be checked, diagnosed and treated for skin cancer in its early detection stages, and those with darker complexions have a greater risk of dying from the disease.

Dermatologist Heather Woolery-Lloyd of Miami warns that dark skinned people need protection from the sun too. In a guest column for CNN she writes:

“The common misperception that naturally bronzed skin is immune to the threat of skin cancer is a dangerous one…. We perpetuate this urban legend within our growing communities of color by assuming that our dark skin does not need SPF protection, that our dark skin does not need to be checked and that we can cheat skin cancer-related deaths. However, this false assumption has become a silent killer with deadly consequences.”

Woolery-Lloyd says she is constantly reminding patients that skin cancer can occur in any skin type and color. She points out that anyone is susceptible and that education is the key to catching skin cancer early.

She says her white patients are typically extremely concerned about new moles, while her black patients are often dismissive about them.

QUESTION: Do you wear sunscreen regularly? If or when you notice a new mole, are you likely to have it checked out immediately?

State proposal regulates skin color of dolls in daycare

Speaking of skin color, child care workers in Colorado may soon be required to provide children with at least three different races of dolls to play with. The proposed rules are part of a part of 98-page list of regulations meant to standardize and improve the state's daycare centers. Other rules include limiting television viewing to 20 minutes a day, guidelines on time spent outdoors, sunscreen policies, staff dress codes and field trip mandates. Some workers are not to keen on the changes and have called them “astronomically overbearing.” (Read more here

Obama: ‘The money may not be in the coffers’

According to President Barack Obama, if Congress doesn’t reach a debt reduction deal soon, over 70-million social security checks may not go out next month. If a resolution is not reached by August 2, the Federal Government may not cut for disability and military benefits as well. "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August third if we haven't resolved this issue," Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley. "There may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," said the President. Do you wonder if Congress will receive their checks?
