intent to kill in the Saturday morning shooting of Brandon Davis, 22. That charge was upgraded after Davis died more than 12 hours later following surgery.
The shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of Remus Road, just north of Remount Road near Interstate 77 in southwest Charlotte.
When officers arrived, they found Davis lying on the street suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was initially listed in stable condition following surgery.
Based on initial witness statements, police believe Davis and Singleton were involved in an argument that escalated into a fight and then a shooting. The Charlotte Observer reported that the fight stemmed from a dispute involving money from a card game.
Police arrested Singleton in a car that matched the description on one that witnesses said fled the scene.
Jail records show that Singleton had been arrested at least six times previously, mostly on drug charges. He was charged once with assault on a female and twice for resisting officers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
