Duke lacrosse accuser is arrested
The woman who famously accused Duke University lacrosse players of sexually assaulting her is in trouble with the law again.
Police on Sunday arrested Crystal Mangum, 32, and charged her with stabbing a man at a South Durham apartment, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. Police described the victim as Mangum’s boyfriend.
She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
According to published reports, officers arrived at the apartment at 3:15 a.m. Sunday and found a 46-year-old man who had been stabbed in the torso.
Police did not release the victim’s name but said the stabbing apparently occurred during an argument. Mangum was arrested in a nearby apartment and was being held without bail, the N&O reported.
In March 2006, Mangum accused members of the Duke lacrosse team of sexually assaulting her while she was working as a stripper for an escort service. Her accusations were eventually labeled as false and the case was thrown out.
Since then, Mangum has had brushes with the law.
In February 2010, she was arrested and charged with slashing her boyfriend’s tires, smashing his windshield with a vacuum cleaner and setting fire to a pile of his clothes in a bathtub.
Mangum was convicted of child abuse, vandalism and resisting an officer. A felony arson charge was dismissed.
