A Sunday morning shooting at an east Charlotte apartment complex left one man dead.

The victim was identified as Alenjandro Leon-Martinez, 34.

The shooting happened about 4:13 a.m. in the parking lot of the Mount Crest Apartments in the 1600 block of Eastcrest Drive, just off Central Avenue. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead in the parking lot at 4:22 a.m.

An officer from the Eastway Division was near the scene and heard at least one of the gunshots. He then saw an SUV leaving the apartment complex.

Police chased the vehicle onto Briarcreek Road and Commonwealth Drive, where the SUV wrecked at a dead end. Four subjects jumped from the vehicle and ran. Three were detained at the scene and taken to police headquarters for questioning; a fourth was being sought by police.

Murder charges were later filed against: Kevin Hernandez, 16; Joel Munos, 17; and Cruz Diaz-Pena, 19. All were in custody at the Mecklenburg jail.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
