Eddie Long's church linked to alleged mortgage scam
Bishop Eddie Long is back in the news, this time for allowing his megachurch to host what some are calling a major mortgage scam.
According to CBS Atlanta, authorities are investigating a company called Matrix Capital, which promised to lower people's mortgages for $1,500 upfront. Police say thousands of homeowners paid Matrix money, but according to investigators, most of them ended up in bankruptcy and losing their homes.
The company held many of its meetings to recruit new clients on the campus of New Birth, Long's 25,000-member church in DeKalb County, Ga.
In September, four men with ties to Long’s church filed lawsuits in Georgia accusing him of sexual coercion. One of the men now lives in Charlotte.
