EpiCentre developers facing lawsuit

EpiCentre developers facing lawsuit

The EpiCentre’s new lender, Blue Air 2010, have filed a lawsuit in federal bankruptcy court against the troubled complex’s developers. Among other things, Blue Air claims the developers "manipulated and falsified" bookkeeping records and transferred assets to "various insider companies" before the project filed for Chapter 11 last year. The lawsuit also claims the debtors made "numerous false statements" in their pleadings and court filings. According to court documents, Blue Air is arguing that two of the project’s developers, Afshin Ghazi and George Cornelson III are responsible for returning the EpiCentre's assets. (Read more

Clyburn: Obama is a good President with great potential

Rep. James Clyburn was recently in the Qcity for a meeting of the 21st Century Council, a program of the Congressional Black Caucus Institute that brings together business, political and other leaders to research policy issues and present solutions. While in town, he toured the Time Warner Cable Arena, and reportedly said he could “feel” that next year’s Democratic National Convention is “going prove to be one of the best ever." Clyburn, who is the assistant Democratic leader in the 112th Congress and No. 3 Democrat in the House, also remarked on President Obama’s 2012 campaign. When asked if he thought Obama will when, he answered “Yes.” Then added, “Obama is a good president; he has the potential to be a great president.” (Read more)

Study: Flu vaccine less effective for the overweight

That annual flu shot may be significantly less effective in preventing you from catching the flu if you are overweight. According to a study by researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill, excess weight also renders the vaccine less likely to reduce the severity of the illness if you do catch it. "Basically what we're finding is that with increasing BMI (body mass index), from overweight to obese, the immune response to the vaccine is not as robust as it is for individuals who are at a healthy weight," said Melinda Beck, a professor and associate chairwoman of nutrition at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and senior author of the study, which was published in the International Journal of Obesity.
