The Mint Museum Uptown will be open FREE to the public on January 7-8 for a weekend of celebrations, music, food, special programs, and say farewell to the “Romare Bearden: Southern Recollections” exhibition. Following its run in the Qcity, the exhibition will travel to the Tampa Museum of Art (28 January through 6 May 2012) and the Newark Museum (23 May through 19 August 2012). Click here for more info.

Scholarship money available
Foundation for the Carolinas (FFTC) is opening its 2012 scholarships cycle. The Foundation offers a variety of scholarships that were created by families and individuals, corporations and organizations to help students achieve their educational goals. In 2011, the Foundation awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to over 600 students. The funds grant between $500 and $10,000 to high school, community college and university students. Donate blood, feed the hungry
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) is kicking off 2012 with its Fourth Annual ‘Pint for Pounds’ campaign to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. CBCC will donate six pounds of food for every blood donation now through Feb. 29. For businesses, civic organizations and churches interested in hosting a blood drive with CBCC, call Kim Jones, director of sponsorship development, at 704-972-4727. Those interested in donating blood can do so at one of CBCC’s four donor centers or at a community blood drive (www.cbcc.us/donate).

Coming again: Charlotte Restaurant Week
The next installment of Queen's Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 29. And will feature a record 101 participating restaurants. During this semi-annual event, participating restaurants in the Charlotte area offer a prix fixe, three-course (or more) dinner for $30 per person (not including tax and gratuity). About 90,000 dinners were served during the summer event. First-time participants will include Bernardin’s at Ratcliffe in uptown Charlotte; Campania Cafe in Davidson; Fern, Flavors from the Garden in Plaza-Midwood; Waldhorn Restaurant in Pineville; Yama Asian Fusion in SouthPark; Jeffrey’s Restaurant in Mooresville; Osso Restaurant & Lounge in the North Carolina Music Factory; and La Paz in the Metropolitan, plus several others.
