A woman sustained “serious head injuries” Monday morning after her Kia minivan collided with a police vehicle on its way to an incident in the Grier Heights neighborhood.

Police did not immediately release the woman’s name but said she was ejected from the minivan and admitted to Carolinas Medical Center in stable condition. No one else was in the minivan.

The officer involved in the crash, Cory Milbourne, joined CMPD in March 200. He was treated at Carolinas Medical Center for injuries described as minor.

According to an initial CMPD report, Milbourne, a canine officer, was responding to a foot chase in Grier Heights area around 9:30 a.m. when the collision occurred at the intersection of Monroe and Briar Creek roads.

A CMPD spokesman said the crash is under investigation.
