Ford won't seek re-election as Democratic party chair
Joel Ford announced Friday that he won't run for re-election as chairman of the
Mecklenburg County Democratic Party.
Ford, 41, told the Charlotte Observer that he wants to spend more time with his family and other community activities. Among other things, he chairs the Charlotte Housing Authority.
Democrats will elect a new chairman in March.
Ford ran unsuccessfully for Charlotte City Council in 2005 and said he’s eyeing a run for the school board next year.
Ford was elected party chair in 2008 to replace David Erdman, who resigned after the party's messy election of Nick Mackey as sheriff, an election later overturned by the state party.
