Former NBA player Robert Horry’s daughter Ashlyn Horry died Tuesday of a genetic abnormality, which is so rare it had no official name up until a few years ago.

Ashlyn was 17 years old and Horry’s first child.

“My little girl was the light of my life and my family's," Horry told the Los Angeles Times. "It's been tough, but we were blessed to have her for the time we did."

Horry and his wife Keva also have a son named Camron.

Ashlyn’s life-long disease is now known as the 1p36 deletion syndrome, which occurs when a child is born missing a part of chromosome No. 1

Her daddy may have won seven NBA championships, but to the Horry family, Ashlyn was the true champion. She suffered severe respiratory issues and a host of other complications. She spent the first six months of her life in the hospital and endured 17 years of constant testing, multiple surgeries and several near death experiences.
