Police are investigating the Sunday morning killing of a 42-year-old man in east Charlotte following an apparent fight.

Timothy Staten was found dead shortly before 7:30 a.m. on the front porch of a residence in the 3300 block of Erskine Drive. Police said he died of an apparent gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police that Staten had been fighting with another man in the parking lot area of the nearby Creekside Retreat Apartments. Shortly after the fight ended, witnesses said, they heard gunshots and saw Staten running from the scene.

Police gave no description of the suspect.

Fourth man arrested in Wednesday killing

Police early Saturday arrested a fourth man in connection with the June 29 shooting

  Therome Willie Poe

death of 32-year-old Singbay Mulbah.

Therome Willie Poe, 28, was taken into custody without incident by the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team. He was charged with murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Police said Mulbah was shot after going to a location in the 5400 block of Pin Oak Circle in east Charlotte to sell “a large quantity of drugs” to the suspects. But instead of closing the deal, police said, the suspects had decided to rob him.

As Mulbah ran away, police said, the suspects shot at him several times. A bullet struck his femoral artery. He died later at Carolinas Medical Center.

Three other suspects were arrested Thursday.

Although a CMPD spokesman said detectives are not investigating any other suspects, the case remains an active investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide investigator, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
