Police will ask the Mecklenburg district attorney to decide whether criminal charge should be filed in a Friday night shooting that left an ex-husband dead following an apparent domestic dispute.

Satmar Colmenares, 33, died around 8:21 p.m. outside the home of his former wife’s boyfriend in the 6200 block of Breckfield Court. Police said that Colmenares had gone to the house to confront the couple and that the two men had struggled.

When officers arrived at the home, they found Colmenares lying on the front porch, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police did not immediately release the names of the shooter or the victim’s ex-wife.

Police said the ex-wife and her boyfriend remained at the scene and were cooperating with the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Detective S. Sarvis is the lead detective assigned to the case. In addition, you may also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
