Ga. teacher on leave after allowing students to wear KKK outfits
A North Georgia teacher faces disciplinary action after she allowed four students in her U.S. history class to don mock Ku Klux Klan outfits as part of their senior project.
The teacher, Catherine Ariemma, has called her decision “poor judgment” and “a hard lesson learned.” She was placed on administrative leave and could be fired, according to the Associated Press.
The students, all white, were filming a project on the history of racism in the United States. As part of that project, some made Klan-like outfits. Dressed in those costumes, they walked though a cafeteria area at the school to begin filming.
The sight of people in Klan-like outfits upset some black students at the school and led at least one parent to complain, the AP reported.
