Gastonia preacher charged with sex crime
The Rev. Clinton Feemster, a pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a
professor of religion at Gardner-Webb University, has been charged with soliciting crimes against nature, according to media and police reports.
Feemster, 58, was arrested last Friday. Police said he requested oral sex from an undercover detective at a public overlook at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.
According to the Charlotte Observer, police say they have received several complaints from the public who've seen "lewd sexual activity" there.
Feemster has been employed at Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs since 2004. He is the director of the Pittman Center for Congregational Enrichment, which provides educational and enrichment opportunities for both laity and clergy.
He has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Gardner-Webb spokesman Noel Manning told the Observer the university community was shocked by the misdemeanor charge and that they were praying for Feemster and his family.
