Colin Powell to speak at SC State graduation
Retired U.S. Army Gen. Colin L. Powell will be the keynote speaker for SC State
University’s spring commencement ceremony.
The Friday, May 6, ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on the school’s Orangeburg, S.C., campus.
Powell was appointed as the first African American secretary of state under former President George W. Bush. Prior to serving in that role, he worked in key defense and national security positions for every U.S. president dating back to Ronald Reagan.
Since returning to private life, Powell has become a limited partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm and is helping to raise funds for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. He also authored a best-selling autobiography, "My American Journey."
