Gloria Kelley was appointed to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board of Trustees, filling a vacancy that opened this summer.

Kelly was a member of the recently completed Future of the Library Task Force, a 17-member citizen group that spent five months examining the library system and making recommendations for its future. She has been a library professional for more than 30 years and currently serves as dean of library services for Central Piedmont Community College.

Kelley received her Master of Library Science degree from Atlanta University and an MBA from Winthrop University. She has also contributed to the library profession with a myriad of publications and presentations.

Kwan Graham and two other Charlotte-area residents were selected by Gov. Beverly Perdue to serve on the North Carolina Public Charter School Advisory Council.

Also selected from the city were: Aaron Means, a former KIPP Charlotte board member; and Rebecca Shore, a UNC Charlotte professor and former teacher and school administrator.

Graham, a Charlotte mom, has led a parents’ liaison initiative for the nonprofit group Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina. She also served on the executive board and student leadership team at Paw Creek Elementary

The Charter School Advisory Council was created after N.C. lawmakers lifted the state’s 100-school cap on charter schools. The council will be responsible for helping the N.C. Board of Education adopt policies and requirements for charter schools.
