Gorman slams CMS program

Good morning Qcity! Today is going to be a beautiful day in Charlotte. The weatherman is calling for abundant sunshine with a high near 65°. Tonight expect lows in the mid 30s.
Here’s what’s brewing in the news:
Gorman slams CMS after-school programs
During a national education conference in Washington, D.C., the former superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Peter Gorman, made some unflattering comments about the district.
While speaking at the conference about his willingness to share unfavorable data with CMS board members, Gorman said, "We gave them the good and the bad. We actually showed that the worst after-school program you could be involved with in Charlotte was the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools after-school program. The quality was just so poor."
Board members and local after-school experts say they have never heard of such data, reports The Charlotte Observer.
Gorman’s insults cut deeper. A WBT radio report by Jeff Sonier included quotes from a Sept. 27 forum sponsored by the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project, at which Gorman called CMS school board members “crazy.”
Gorman, through a spokesman at his new employer, News Corp., declined Monday to explain his statement about the district’s after-school program, which is the largest in the state.
