 Harry Jones

Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones says he will soon undergo intensive treatment for an unspecified medical condition.

In an e-mail today to county commissioners and other county officials, Jones said the treatment will probably begin in a week or two and last for an unspecified period of time.

“I just want to make you aware that although I intend, as much as I can, to make myself available either in the office, by email, or telephone, it may become necessary for me to take sick leave,” Jones said in the email.

Jones wrote that in case he must take a leave of absence, General Manager Bobbie Shields would serve as acting county manager.

General managers John McGillicuddy and Michelle Lancaster also could fill in if necessary. Jones has served as Mecklenburg manager since 2000.
