Hit-and-run victim dead in south Charlotte
Police Wednesday morning were called to investigate a hit-and-run death in the 7700 block of Carmel Road, near Timber Hill Court in south Charlotte.
A 911 dispatcher received a call around 3:11 a.m. notifying authorities that a man was lying in the roadway.
When officers arrived, they found the man unconscious in the roadway. His moped was off the roadway in a grassy area near a tree line.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at 3:21 a.m. Police could not immediately identify the victim.
Based on information gathered at the scene, police believe the victim crashed his moped and was later struck by a car.
Detectives have information that the victim was in the Carmel Road/Johnston Road area shortly after 2:00 a.m. The timeline for this crash is approximately between 2:10 a.m. and 3:11 a.m.
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle that struck the victim. Police also are asking that anyone who may have been involved in the crash to come forward.
