Homeowner kills man suspected of stealing a trailer
Police are investigating a fatal shooting by a homeowner who said he fired after two men who had stolen a trailer from his yard.
The incident happed late Monday near the intersection of Lawing School Road and Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road in northwest Charlotte.
The victim was identified Tuesday as James David Lambert, 41.
Police received a call at 11:43 p.m. in reference to someone in a pickup truck stealing a trailer on Travis Floyd Lane. Initial evidence indicates that a resident on Travis Floyd got into his vehicle and chased down the suspected thieves, Police said.
At the intersection of Lawing School Road and Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, the resident shot one of the suspects in the head. The subject was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Carolinas Medical Center.
No charges were immediately filed against the shooter.
The second occupant of the vehicle towing the trailer remained on scene and was taken to police headquarters, along with the shooter, who also remained at the scene.
The shooting forced police to close a section of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road while they investigated the shooting.
